Understanding Your HNS Wallet Balance

Different balance figures describe different views of the same coins. A difference alone is not evidence that money is lost, stolen or burned.

Four terms, one wallet

Spendable now
The current accounting balance minus current covenant-locked coins. This is not a promise that every coin can be sent immediately: fees, coin maturity, confirmation policy, manual coin locks and signing permissions still apply. A watch-only wallet cannot sign.
Currently locked
All current covenant-locked HNS, including auction and name-related coins. This does not mean all of it is refundable. An auction summary can cover only part of these locks.
Confirmed accounting total
The wallet total based on confirmed transactions. It can include locked coins; it is not a second pot of spendable money.
Current total including pending
The wallet total after applying known pending transactions. Older screens and the underlying wallet call this Unconfirmed. It is a snapshot total, not an additional amount waiting to arrive. Never add it to Confirmed.

A small example

For the same wallet, network and fresh snapshot: 80 HNS spendable + 20 HNS currently locked = 100 HNS current total including pending. The 20 HNS is already inside the 100 HNS.

If a pending outgoing transaction spends 5 HNS including its fee, the current total becomes 95 HNS while the confirmed total can remain 100 HNS until confirmation. Equal confirmed and current totals can be normal too; neither equality nor their difference counts pending transactions.

Locked is not the same as burned

During an auction, the lockup includes the true bid plus the blind. Depending on the auction stage and deadlines, releasing eligible funds may require Reveal, Redeem or Register. These actions have network fees; simply waiting does not perform them.

For a winning auction, the clearing price is permanently committed when the name is registered. This is commonly called burned HNS. It is based on the second-highest valid revealed bid, not the full winning bid plus blind. A rescan cannot refund it.

Do not call the difference between spendable and confirmed totals burned. Aggregate locked HNS does not identify the permanent registered-name portion. That requires individual coin and name records. A name's resale value is also not spendable HNS.

Comparing Bob with HNS Investments Companion

Bob shows the selected wallet. HNS Investments Companion can sum multiple wallet rows. Compare the same network, wallet selection, block height and refresh time before comparing amounts.

The companion's Spendable now and Currently locked use the same current accounting basis. Its Free confirmed means confirmed total minus confirmed locked coins. That conservative confirmed view can differ from Spendable now while transactions are pending. Confirmed and Unconfirmed must not be added together in either app.

When the numbers still do not make sense

Check the selected wallet, network, pending transactions, auction actions and wallet scan progress. A synchronized node does not by itself prove that every wallet panel has refreshed. Stale auction summaries or an incomplete wallet rescan can produce an inconsistent display. Unknown or updating data is not zero.

Do not delete wallet files or use Deep clean just to make totals match. Diagnose first and confirm a safe backup and recovery plan with support before any destructive repair. Do not start overlapping rescans. A rescan rebuilds local history; it cannot reverse a transaction or recover permanently committed value.

For support, privately share the exact app version, operating system, local SPV or Custom RPC mode, scan duration, block height and a redacted error excerpt. Remove wallet names, addresses and balances if not needed. Never share seed phrases, passwords, private keys, wallet databases or API tokens.
