Pick the build that matches your computer. macOS is the only platform with two choices — use Apple Silicon unless you know you have an Intel Mac.

Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4)

Most Macs sold since late 2020. Check Apple menu → About This Mac → Chip.

Windows db\LOCK startup error?

Bob may fail to start when the Windows profile folder contains Cyrillic or other non-ASCII characters. Do not delete wallet data as a first step.

Stable 2.3.17 release

v2.3.17 follows the 2.3.14 public beta. Both macOS builds are Developer ID signed, notarized, stapled, and Gatekeeper verified.

  • Auction Basket and Register All preserve reviewed scope and recovery state, with safeguards against duplicate retries.
  • Overview clarifies spendable and locked balances and rejects stale wallet snapshots. Shakedex and ShakeX have separate selling choices.
  • Confirm the downloaded filename includes 2.3.17.
  • Verify the SHA256 checksum on the GitHub release page before opening the installer.

SPV helper migration included

Bob now defaults to https://spv.learnhns.com/hsd. Installations using Bob’s retiring HandshakeAPI default migrate automatically, while custom SPV helper providers remain unchanged.

Not sure which Mac build?

  1. Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac.
  2. If you see Chip: Apple M1/M2/M3/M4, download Apple Silicon (arm64).
  3. If you see Processor: Intel, download Intel Mac (x64).

Update carefully

Bob LearnHNS 2.3.17 is the actively maintained stable 2026 line. Keep your seed phrase backed up, confirm the app opens the wallet profile you expect, and use extra care before moving high-value names.

Back up your wallet profile and local Shakedex seller proof/listing files; a seed phrase does not restore those marketplace files. Never blindly retry an uncertain transaction.

The dependency audit retains five critical affected-package entries from one bsock advisory, with a protocol-specific mitigation. This is not a zero-advisory security claim. Read the release notes before upgrading.

Moving from original Bob 2.1.0 to Bob LearnHNS?

Returning after a few years?

Bob is a local desktop wallet, not a web login. Restore with your seed phrase inside Bob LearnHNS — you do not need Terminal or the old data folder. You do not need the old address first. Keep any old Bob data folder as a backup; do not delete it.

Need the older 2024 release line?

The official Bob Wallet (2024) builds are unchanged since that release. Most users should start with Bob LearnHNS unless you specifically need the legacy line.
